Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh won’t be arrested by police

Relief for actors Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has come with the Allahabad High Court putting a stay on their arrest in a case related to their film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela.

A UP resident had last year filed a case against the Ram-Leela team for hurting the sentiments of Hindu community. One can recall that there were protests from some groups in the run-up to the release of the movie in 2013, even prompting director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to change the title from Ram-Leela to Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela.

In November last year, an FIR was lodged in a Bareilly court against the Ram-Leela team for hurting religious sentiments.

In response, Bhansali and others had filed a petition seeking a stay on their arrest.

In the latest development, a Division Bench of Allahabad High Court, comprising Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Shashi Kant, passed the order staying the arrest of the actors and director.

The Ram-Leela team can heave a sigh of relief, but they aren’t out of the woods yet as the case hasn’t been quashed.

The movie, released on November 15, featured Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in leading roles. Priyanka Chopra had made a guest appearance in a song.
